Overview:

The epic owner is responsible for understanding the overall vision and strategic goals of the project or product. They ensure that the epic aligns with these objectives and contributes to the larger mission.They collaborate with stakeholders to prioritize epics based on business value, customer impact, and other relevant criteria. This involves balancing conflicting interests and ensuring that the team focuses on the most important work

Responsibilities Skills

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work with stakeholders and subject matter experts to define an epic using the ‘epic hypothesis statement

  • Provide input for economic prioritization of Epic based on Weighted Shortest Job First (WSJF), the Lean business case, and other relevant factors

  • Create the Lean business case for Epic

  • Collaborate with Product and Solution Management and System and Solution Architects/Engineering to decompose the epic into epics and capabilities and help prioritize these backlog items in their respective program and solution backlogs

  • Work with Agile Teams that perform research spikes, create proofs of concept, mock-ups, etc

  • Understand and report on the progress of the epic’s MVP with key stakeholders and LPM

  • Secure funding for the epics

 

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Participate in Program Increment (PI) Planning, System Demo, and Solution Demo, whenever there is critical activity related to the epic

  • Facilitate, as needed, the implementation of the epic through the continuous delivery pipeline and release on demand

  • Coordinate and synchronize epic-related activities with sales, marketing, and other business units
