New Relic is an SAAS platform that provides the capabilities of Full Stack Observability and Real-Time Monitoring for applications.

The approach to having a simple and understandable visualization of application KPIs will be helpful to assess the application health along with correlating and managing the alerts.

New Relic is built with Observability in mind, as such the tool is very effective in collecting, correlating and visualizing the three pillars of Observability: Metrics, Logs, and Traces.

Simple Setup:

New Relic is designed to be simpler to introduce into an existing system with very minimal changes required. New Relic agent installation is a non-outage and non-dependent process on the application/server, with the single exception of APM agents which are needed to be instrumented into application configs.

This means the Enterprise Monitoring team can facilitate the New Relic agent installation and update process as a one-time set-up without any major inconvenience. Apart from being simpler to install, New Relic also boasts a very minimal overhead requirements because its agents are described as “lightweight piece of software“.

Ease of use:

New Relic provides a descriptive documentation on all the features and functionalities available. For example, New Relic provides multiple options for installation such as guided installation which can be used to install according to pre-defined set of steps by New Relic or manual installation which can be used to customize and add the installation to the application CI/CD pipeline.

New Relic has a single query interface which can be used to query the telemetry data of all the entities using NRQL, this provides users with capability to create a dashboard as they choose fit even if are only Basic type users.

New Relic provides a intuitive UI which auto collates and correlates all the data from different sources with the Tags configured. This allows users to segregate and visualize the data of their application.
