Overview:

The Scrum Master (SM)/ Team Coach is a servant leader and coach for the Agile Squad(s) who facilitates squad level processes and execution, drives continuous development, manages risks and escalates impediments. The scrum master ensures that the SAFe framework is being followed by squad members.

Scrum Master/Team Coach Skills

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for reinforcing the rules of an Agile squad. These may include the rules of Built-In Quality practices, Work in Process (WIP) limits from Kanban.

  • Facilitate squad events, including Daily Stand-up, Planning, Review, and Retrospective kept within the timebox.

  • Support the squad in addressing and eliminating impediments to improve the conversation of planned vs actual commitments.

  • Represent the squad in the Scrum of Scrums (SoS), helping the squad remain aware of opportunities to engage and improve program effectiveness.

  • Facilitate and assists the squad in preparation for ART activities, including PI/BRP Planning, System Demos and I&A.

  • Responsible for squad level progress report based on agreed KPIs and share it with management as agreed.

  • Help the squad resolve interpersonal conflicts and challenges and identify opportunities for growth.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Support and help the Product Owner in their efforts to manage the backlog and guide the team while facilitating a healthy team dynamic with respect to priorities and scope.

  • Work with other Scrum Masters/Team coaches and stakeholders to help the team contribute towards improving the overall development Value Stream.

  • Support RTE in PI/BRP planning readiness

  • Help RTE in Essential SAFe/ART level governance reporting specific to their respective teams
